Membership & billing

Is there a free version?

Yes — the game is free. Tracking your walks, earning WAG XP, levelling your dog, Wag Wars, your breed's board, streaks and the Suburb League all cost nothing.

Pup and Alpha add the matchmaking depth and perks on top — filters, super licks, every board, route maps and more. You never need a membership to play.

What's the difference between Pup and Alpha?

Pup (A$12.99/mo) covers the discovery experience — premium filters, 3 undo swipes a day, 10 super licks a month, owner Pawfile discovery, up to 3 dog Pawfiles, walk route maps.

Alpha (A$24.99/mo) is everything in Pup plus unlimited swipes, unlimited super licks, every BreedBoard (not just yours), unlimited dog Pawfiles, an Alpha badge, 2× XP boosts, and walk-buddy suggestions.

Yearly plans save you about half — A$79.99/yr for Pup, A$149.99/yr for Alpha.

Can I subscribe on the web instead of in the app?

Yes. Subscribing on tailwag.app uses Stripe instead of Apple. The price is the same, but it doesn't go through Apple's billing — which is what we built so we can keep the lights on without losing 30% off the top.

Both methods unlock the same features. Pick a plan →

How do I cancel?

If you subscribed on the website: head to your account page → "Manage subscription" → cancel.

If you subscribed in the iOS app: open Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions → TailWag → cancel.

Either way, you keep access until the end of your current billing period — no pro-rated refunds for the unused portion.

What about refunds?

Web subscriptions: contact us within 14 days of the charge if something went wrong. We'll assess under Australian Consumer Law.

App Store subscriptions: refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com — we don't process those.

Will the price ever go up?

Possibly, but not without 30 days' notice to existing subscribers. If you're locked in early, you keep your rate as long as your subscription stays active.

Getting the app

When does the app launch?

iOS first, rolling out via TestFlight in waves through 2026. Android comes later in the year.

Joining the waitlist puts you in line. Inviting friends bumps you forward.

Why iOS first?

Solo founder, limited time. iOS gives us tighter design control and a faster launch. Android joins as soon as we have the runway.

Do I need an iPhone to subscribe?

No. You can subscribe via the web (Stripe) without ever opening the app. Your subscription waits for you whenever the app is on your phone.

The game

What is TailWag, actually?

A sports club for dogs. You walk your dog, the walk earns WAG XP, your dog levels up, and your suburb climbs the ladder. Around that: Wag Wars to compete in, breed boards to hang out on, parks and cafés to check in at, and a Pawfile that tells your dog's story.

Dogs first, owners second. Your dog is the athlete — you're the support crew.

What are Wag Wars?

Walking duels. Challenge another dog 1v1 — or go 2v2 and pack vs pack — over 1, 3, 5 or 7 days, or a full month. Everyone walks their own walks, wherever they like; every kilometre pours into the tug-of-war. Most distance when the clock runs out wins.

Wins and losses build your dog's record. Fight the same rival twice and it becomes a rivalry with its own head-to-head history. Friends can watch your wars live and fire quick barks from the sideline.

How do WAG XP and levels work?

Walks earn WAG XP — more distance and time, more XP, with bonuses for park check-ins, partner café visits and walking with friends. XP is calculated on our servers from your actual walk, so it can't be faked or fudged.

The XP belongs to your dog, not you. Dogs level up through each season, and the season leaderboards run from suburb all the way to national.

What's a streak?

Walk days in a row. Walk today, the streak grows; miss a day, it resets. Your Home screen warns you when a streak is one lazy evening away from dying.

What's the Suburb League?

Every walk you track adds kilometres to your suburb's monthly total, ranked against the other suburbs in your city. Your local park crew versus the next postcode over — bragging rights refresh every month.

What are the "Top" name boards?

Every dog named Rex, ranked. Namesake boards pit your dog against every other dog sharing their name — suburb, city, state or national. If your Bella is the #1 Bella in Australia, you can wear it as a badge on her Pawfile. You choose which rank to show off.

Walks & parks

How accurate are the walk stats?

Distance comes straight from GPS, time from the timer, pace is simply distance over time. We'd rather throw away a junk GPS reading than guess — if the signal is rubbish, the metres don't count. No estimates dressed up as facts.

Does TailWag count calories or health stats?

No — and it never will. No calories, no step counts, no heart rate, no health scores, for you or your dog. TailWag is a sports and lifestyle club, not a medical device. Your vet knows your dog's health; we know their walking record.

How do park check-ins work?

Open the park in the app while you're actually there — check-ins only work within 200 metres of the park, so the leaderboards stay honest. Checking in during a walk earns bonus XP and counts towards park challenges.

What's TailWag Time at cafés?

Partner cafés run TailWag Time windows — check in with your dog during one and your walk XP gets a multiplier. Repeat visits stamp a loyalty paw card that unlocks real rewards at the counter. Melbourne bayside cafés first; more as the pack grows.

Privacy & data

Where is my data stored?

Supabase Sydney (AWS ap-southeast-2). Walks, profiles, photos — all on Australian infrastructure.

Stripe processes payment cards on its own servers; we never see card data.

Who can see my dog's Pawfile?

BreedFeed posts are visible to other dog owners in the scope you selected (Local, City, State, Country, Global). Your owner Pawfile only becomes visible after a mutual match in Discovery.

The QR code on your dog's collar shows the dog's Pawfile — name, breed, vibe — but never your owner contact info unless you flip the safety QR on.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, anytime, in the app under Settings → Privacy → Delete account. Or email founder@tailwag.app. We export your data on request and delete it within 30 days.

What if another user is doing the wrong thing?

Block and report tools are built into every profile, post and chat. Reports go to a moderation queue — repeated reports hide content automatically while we review it. TailWag is 18+, and we'd rather lose a bad owner than a good community.

QR collars

Do I need a TailWag QR Collar to use the app?

No. The app works with any collar (or none). The TailWag QR Collar is the physical bridge — if your dog wanders, whoever finds them can scan it to message you. You can also use the in-app QR for social Pawfile sharing without a collar.

Is the QR Collar a GPS tracker?

No. There are no electronics, no batteries and no GPS in it — nothing to charge, nothing to go flat. It's a beautifully made collar with a QR identity tag: anyone who scans it sees your dog's public Pawfile and can message you directly, while your contact details stay private.

When can I get a QR Collar?

The QR Collar and Harness are in final product testing — nothing is charged yet. Join the waitlist and pick your colour, and you'll be first in line when they're ready.
